Kim studies the mechanisms that regulate vascular smooth muscle proliferation. The LightSwitch Luciferase Assay system helped her identify the targets of miR-29, which is enriched in the artery and associated with extra-cellular matrix breakdown in aortic aneurysms.
"The SwitchGear GoClone reporter constructs allowed me to identify two targets of a homeodomain transcription factor involved in the regulation of gene expression downstream of NF-kB signaling. Furthermore, the SwitchGear LightSwitch Luciferase Assay System allowed me to identify a new interaction of a homeodomain factor with a known regulator of NF-kB signaling, opening the possibility to explore new mechanisms regulating the NF-kB pathway. I recommend using the SwitchGear GoClone constructs to identify relevant transcriptional regulators and targets controlling signaling cascades."
